I lost kidney function overnight in 2018 due to an autoimmune condition called Goodpastures disease.
I tried peritoneal dialysis at home but that didn’t work out, so I’ve a right arm fistula. I had a transplant, but the donor kidney never got going. So after 6 months I had a nephrectomy to remove it.
I had expected the offer of a second transplant, but days after the operation I was told I had advanced metastatic prostate cancer. It’s treatable but that precludes a transplant, so it’s dialysis 3x a week for life.
A zipped fleece is a godsend: CKD patients feel the cold, dialysis clinics run the aircon to facilitate the priming of the equipment, hence the value of a Picc A Boo garment!
